The mission and purpose of the Kady Haynes Beauty For Ashes Project (a 501(c)(3) corporation) is to honor the memory and continue the legacy of our daughter, Kady, by purchasing Christmas gifts for women diagnosed with late-stage Metastatic Breast Cancer and their children in the Tampa Bay area. Please consider a donation in any amount to help us ease the burdens cancer imposes upon the entire family. If you would like a receipt, please leave your request in the comments with your name and address/email address and one will be mailed/emailed to you. Thank you for helping us bring joy to a hurting family at the most joyous time of the year while we remember Kady’s beautiful life and spirit!
Hello! My name is Denise Haynes. I’m 54 years old, the mother of two girls, Nana/mama of two spectacular grandchildren and happily married to my husband, Don, for 33 years. I’m a Christian, consider myself to be deeply spiritual but not religious, somewhat traditional but also socially progressive. I’ve been blessed beyond anything I deserve and feel grateful every day to have been gifted with such an idyllic life.
I’m also a grieving mother whose heart has been broken beyond anything I could possibly describe. Losing my precious daughter to cancer has changed who I am on every level, but I choose joy despite my mourning because I believe the promise of Jeremiah 29:11 with every fiber of my being:
“For I know the plans I have for you” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
In January 2012, at the age of 28, our beautiful daughter, Kady Haynes, was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer. Sadly, her great attitude, surgeries, and chemotherapy could not protect her from the cancer metastasizing to her liver and bones. On April 22, 2014 at the age of 30 - only 27 months after diagnosis - Metastatic Breast Cancer stole her beautiful life.
Kady always loved children and began sponsoring those in the foster care system as a young teenager. After her diagnosis, she redirected her efforts to children of women with Metastatic Breast Cancer (MBC). Her legacy of love, generosity, and giving inspired The Kady Haynes Beauty for Ashes Project, where we continue the work she began by fulfilling Christmas wish lists for women with Stage 4 MBC and their children. It is our great honor to serve our community and keep the memory of our wonderful daughter alive by obtaining wish lists, shopping, beautifully wrapping each gift, and delivering the packages to our families.
MBC kills at least 113 beautiful lives every day. Most people don't understand and are shocked to hear that breast cancer never kills anyone. However, when it metastasizes to another part of the body, it becomes 100% fatal and the life expectancy is a mere 36 months.
We are a very small charity that operates entirely on the kindness and generosity of our family and friends. We serve the Tampa Bay community with the help of a social worker at Moffitt Cancer Center, who identifies our potential recipients. The number of families we’re able to help is entirely dependent upon our bank account and are chosen in August. Since we began in 2015, we’ve helped 11 moms and 26 kids have a beautiful Christmas. We’re sad to report that many of these moms have succumbed to their disease but were so grateful to have had the opportunity to help bring joy and lasting memories into their last family Christmas.
Our Facebook page contains testimonials and photos from some of the families we’ve served as well as more info about us. We can’t continue our work without the kindness and generosity of people like you. Please help us give a deserving family the joy and memories that MBC can’t take away. Read More...
